Granada is gearing up to host the Goya Awards on February 8 at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos. As part of the preparations, the city has installed eight giant replicas of the iconic Goya statuettes in key locations, creating excitement and paying tribute to Spanish cinema.
The mayor, Marifrán Carazo, unveiled the statues and opened a photography exhibition called “The Emotion of the Goyas” at Paseo del Violón. The exhibition showcases 38 photos of unforgettable moments from past Goya ceremonies, including a special tribute to Marisa Paredes, who received the Honorary Goya in 2018.
The eight oversized Goya statues are displayed in prominent locations across Granada:
- Avenida de Joaquina Eguaras, near the Almanjáyar administrative building.
- Bulevar de la Encina, at the corner of Carretera antigua de Málagd in the Chana district.
- Avenida de la Constitución, at the corner of Avenida de Andalucía.
- Plaza Nueva, a central and historic part of the city.
- Mirador de San Nicolás, a popular viewpoint offering stunning views of the Alhambra.
- Plaza de la Hípica, in the Zaidín district.
- Glorieta de Arabial, a busy spot in the city.
- Paseo del Violón, where the exhibition is also located.
Starting January 10, the city will add banners to lampposts along Calle Recogidas and Paseo del Violón. These banners will display images of the Goya awards and Granada’s campaign to become the 2031 Capital of Culture.
Granada is excited to welcome the Goya Awards, celebrating Spanish cinema while creating a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
