A 29-year-old Irish woman is in a burn unit at a specialized hospital in Seville after a serious accident at a friend’s wedding.

The woman was in the bathroom when her clothes caught fire from decorative candles, causing severe burns. She was found semi-conscious in a vacation rental in Nerja, a town on the eastern Costa del Sol, and emergency services were called.

Initially, she was taken to Hospital Regional in Malaga, where she reportedly underwent an emergency procedure. Later, she was transferred to the burn unit at Virgen del Rocio University Hospital in Seville.

The accident occurred late Thursday night, following an after-party for an Irish couple’s wedding near the Balcon de Europa viewpoint in Nerja. Local reports indicate that the woman suffered significant burns on her torso and legs.

Medical staff at the burn unit have said they cannot yet predict her recovery, and her condition remains uncertain.

Authorities are treating the incident as a tragic accident, but it’s not yet clear if police are involved in the investigation.
