The Provincial Council of Granada is celebrating this weekend the official public opening of the Castle of La Calahorra, which from Friday morning began welcoming its first visitors. This marks the start of organised visits to one of the great heritage symbols of the province, recently acquired by the Provincial Council last July.

President Francis Rodríguez expressed his satisfaction with this opening weekend of visits, stressing that “we are opening the doors of a treasure that once again belongs to all the people of Granada. The response from the public shows that the Castle of La Calahorra is a historical and cultural landmark, but also an opportunity for development for the province.”

Rodríguez also added that “this is a day that marks a turning point, since we are not only recovering a monument, but also offering both locals and visitors a new space for meeting, learning, and boosting tourism and the economy in this region and throughout Granada.”

Guided tours with limited capacity

The visits are taking place according to the model planned for this first phase of opening, with 40-minute guided tours, a maximum of 30 people per group, and prior booking required. The visiting hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00, and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00, with a total of 22 visits per week and capacity for up to 660 people. At the same time, the Provincial Council of Granada continues to work on the building’s Conservation Plan, which will pave the way for a second phase of themed visits, greater accessibility to the spaces, and rehabilitation works that will strengthen the conservation of the Castle.
