Sierra Nevada Opens This Weekend with Activities for Non-Skiers
Sierra Nevada is set to open this Saturday, November 30, but not in the usual fashion. Due to unseasonably high temperatures and insufficient snow accumulation, the ski station has postponed its opening for skiers. Instead, it will kick off the season with a “tourist opening” featuring snow activities designed for non-skiers.
Visitors will have access to activities in the Borreguiles area, located at 2,600 meters above sea level. Accessible via the Al Ándalus cable car and the Borreguiles carpet lift, this area will offer fun options like sledding and snow tubing, ideal for families and children. These activities will be available during regular winter hours, from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM.
What to Expect in Borreguiles and Pradollano
In Borreguiles, a dedicated snow area has been set up for sledding and tubing. The upper station of the Al Ándalus cable car will also have a shop open for visitors. Meanwhile, the Pradollano area will feature the Mirlo Blanco activity complex, with attractions like the Mirlo sled, sliding mats, and an ice rink. Additionally, ski lockers and storage facilities near the cable car will be open, and the underground parking lot in Plaza de Andalucía will offer free parking.
Looking Ahead
Cetursa, the company managing Sierra Nevada, has confirmed that this setup will remain in place while weather conditions and snow levels are reevaluated next week. The hope is to open ski facilities in time for the Constitution Day holiday. Until then, Sierra Nevada’s alternative activities provide a great way to enjoy the snowy mountain atmosphere.
