The second edition of TRÓPICA Public Art Festival returns to Almuñécar and La Herradura from October 28 to 31, converting historic landmarks and public spaces into an open-air museum of contemporary art. Directed by local artist Javier Domenech in collaboration with the Municipal Youth Department, the festival establishes a creative dialogue between contemporary artistic practices, urban heritage, and the surrounding coastal landscape.

This year’s roster features renowned national and international creators including Simón Zabell, Laura Segura, Ilaria Degradi, Victoria Gee, and Kauh Arquitectos. Site-specific installations will be installed in key heritage locations such as the Palacete de la Najarra—featuring a special collaboration with global architecture and design company Cosentino—as well as around San Miguel Castle and the historic quarter.

The three-day schedule opens on October 29 with a conference on public art by Miguel Moreno Carretero at the Youth Center. On October 30, visitors can join a guided tour led by participating artists at 6:00 PM, followed by the official opening ceremony at El Majuelo Park at 8:00 PM featuring a sound performance by Ilaria Degradi. The festival concludes on October 31 in La Herradura with community activities and water sports. TRÓPICA 2026 bridges culture and tourism through partnerships with local businesses, the Tourist Board, and students from IES Al-Andalus.
