In recent weeks, Sunday afternoons have been problematic for drivers returning to Granada from the coast due to traffic jams on the A-44 highway. To address this issue, the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) will implement an additional lane starting June 30, increasing the capacity of the A-44 between Izbor and Otura. This will be done at the expense of a downhill lane, which has less traffic on Sundays. The measure will be in effect every Sunday and holiday during the summer from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with possible adjustments based on traffic conditions.

The additional lane will cover approximately 15 kilometers and will be separated with cones, in addition to having fixed and variable signage, and surveillance via cameras. The goal is to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The DGT will evaluate the effectiveness of this measure and consider possible new interventions to improve road safety and facilitate the return from the coast. Drivers are asked to respect the signs and the instructions of the Civil Guard officers to ensure a safe and comfortable journey.
